The Rewards for Service

On a Saturday a few weeks ago I joined my friend and a few other people to do service at an old lady's house that we have done service for before.  When we got there we couldn't prune for her because it was too windy, so she called some of her friends that she knew needed service.  The first house we went to we pulled up all the dead plants.  While I was helping pull up plants one of the ladies called to me, "Girl in the pink!  Come inside we want to talk to you."  Confused and wondering what I had done to get called inside, I went in to talk to them.  The first thing the lady asked me was if I had a boyfriend.  I told her no, and she was like oh wonderful!!  "You need to date my grandson!"  She proceeded to ask me how we could meet so I told her she could just give him my number.  A few hours later I was in the sewing lab when I got a phone call from her.  She said she talked to her nephew and he was going to ask me on a date.  A few minutes after that I got a text from him.  We set up a time and date to meet for dinner.
Wednesday night we met at the WILK for dinner.  For the first 15 minutes when we were getting our food he talked about how cool his grandma is and asked what she said about him.  I was so confused because he had me go first but made no appearance that he was going to pay.  So I bought my food.  Not a big deal but not really normal for any dates I've been on, especially the first.  I don't mind paying, but I think it is more appropriate for the person who invited to pay.  When we sat down and were eating we talked about what we are doing with our lives like any normal date.  But then he asked me a really weird question, he asked me if I date a lot.  How do you answer that?  I don't even know if I date a lot, and if I did or didn't why would I want to tell him.  Then he proceeded to tell me about a girl he had broken up with the night before.  How he had a dream about her when he was 13 and it was so real that when she touched his hand in the dream it woke him up.  He then met her on his mission and knew she was the one from his dream.  He had dreams about her ever since, but never made any moves since he was on a mission.  When he got back he really wanted to date her and made it happen.  She has been struggling recently and so he wanted to give her some space.  Which is why he broke up with her the night before our date.  But he knows she is the one so she just needs some time and space to figure things out.  It seemed to me that she wasn't as interested in him as he was in her.  Plus if she is the only one for her than why is he agreeing to go on dates with me?
After the story he asked if I have had a boyfriend I broke up with, but I didn't really want to go into any of those stories.  He then said, "Aren't grandmas just the greatest?"  I was like oh no we are not going there again, so I asked him about his mission.  He told me he didn't want to bore me with mission stories.  Really?  You will tell me all about a girl you dated but mission stories are too boring?  I prefer mission stories.  The date ended and I didn't really think I'd hear from him again.
My friend who does service for the old lady texted me a few days later and asked about it.  He told me the guy told his grandma there would be a second date.  Sure enough a few days later he asked if I wanted to go out again.  Did not see that coming...
